You always told me I was beautiful,
even when you when I was at my worst,
and you knew that I wasn't.
You held my hand and hugged me tight,
even as I cried on your shoulder,
and tried pushing you away.
I told you that I didn't need you anymore,
but you knew that I needed you,
even when I locked you out of your own home.
I told you that I was in love with you,
but you thought I was joking,
you broke my heart like it was a twig under your feet.
You said you were sorry for everything,
I didn't understand why you were sorry,
until you kissed me goodnight on my doorstep.
You were always extremely fidgety,
but that night you were as still as the darkness around us,
you never even said a single word.
You called me up that night and sang to me,
you sang straight from your heart,
and that day I realized, I needed you like I need oxygen.
