The cool sea breeze blows on his face, he steps back and stares at the moon, the serenity calming his frayed nerves. He turns on his heels and heads for his cabin, thinking sleep would be divine. He paces, a thousand things on his mind, his wife, pregnant with his first child,  he hopes to be home as fast as he can. 1987, sailing through difficult waters. I can still feel the glare of your angry eyes, tearing up my soul, like your eyes were vulture's claws. I can still hear the angry words echoing in my mind; you tossed them at me like lightning bolts. I can still see the bruises you left on me, constant reminders of the pain dealt to me that night. I can still feel the grip of your hands on my wrist, like iron manacles on me, torturing me. I can still smell the peppermint on your breath, as you laughed when I fell. I can still feel the triumph, as I defeated you, threw my hairbrush at the mirror, and dispelled all of your illusions, leaving me all alone once again.

I wish that I could go back in time, we could go back to when we had a chance to be together. to go back to those days when your smile made me crazy. I wish you had never met her, that I'd never seen the interest in her eyes when I said your name, that she hadn't taken you from me. I wish you could see these tears, to see all the scars and the damage you've left, that you would hold me tight and never let go, just like you promised. I wish you were here now, to see how much I've grown, that you would notice all the pain written on my face. I wish that you would stop and stare, notice the "I miss you" emblazoned on my heart, stil
